Kirk & Jason's Favorite Plastering Tools

We researched the best stucco tools to save you time and cash, as you don’t need the most expensive equipment - just something that will do the job well. Plus, your support here helps us continue making videos.

Scroll down to see all our recommended tools, or click one of the categories below to jump straight to that section:

We created this video which explains our choice of trowel while on a job, as most people don’t realize there is an alternative:

Hawkes & Trowels

For trowels, we prefer curry swim pool trowels to rectangular trowels, but we do also use rectangular for some jobs. (FYI, there is no such thing as square trowels.)

As you don’t want a perfect radius at both ends, the curry swim-pool trowel has straight edges with just the end corners rounded. It’s perfect for the beginner or professional plasterer as it leaves no lines. However, we often keep a margin trowel in our back pocket for corners.

Rectangular trowels are standard in the stucco industry, but these swim pool trowels are our preference. We recommend if you don’t want to be teased by folks who believe that a trowel should be rectangular as that is what they were taught, buy a rectangular one.

Whether for DIY beginners to Master Craftsmen, these are the main hawkes & trowels we have been using for over 30 years.
